Local: Oak Creek to appoint new trustee

— The Oak Creek Town Board is scheduled to appoint an Oak Creek resident to replace former trustee Bill Paxton's position on the board at its meeting Thursday.

Town Clerk Karen Halterman said Wednesday that after Paxton announced his resignation from the Town Board on July 14, the town began announcing the vacancy on the board, asking interested residents to send letters stating why they wanted to serve.

At its meeting tonight, Halterman said the board will review "the couple of letters" the town has received and mostly likely will make an appointment.

In other business, the Oak Creek Town Board:

  • Is scheduled to review new Oak Creek restaurant Calamity Jane's application for a liquor license. The restaurant has not been able to serve alcohol because it did not have a license. If the Town Board approves the application Thursday, the application would be forwarded to the state of Colorado for final approval, Halterman said. If the state of Colorado approves the appplication, the town would grant Calamity Jane's its liquor license.
  • Is scheduled to hear from a Nebraska Municipal Power Pool representative regarding the company's recent transaction to buy into alternative energy sources. Oak Creek purchases its electricity from the company and is privy to its business transaction, Halterman said.
