Steamboat Springs — Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg has identified the man who died after being struck by a truck Saturday night as Timothy Nolan of Steamboat Springs.

Ryg said Nolan, 48, ran into the path of an oncoming truck shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 40 near High Point Drive. Ryg said paramedics took Nolan to Yampa Valley Medical Center, where he died of injuries sustained in the accident.

Sgt. Rich Brown of the Steamboat Springs Police Department said Nolan was intoxicated when he ran into the road. Ryg confirmed that Monday.

Brown said Nolan was crossing U.S. 40 from east to west when he was struck. When police officers arrived at the accident scene, they saw several people who had stopped and were trying to give first aid to Nolan.

Brown said the driver of the truck, a 16-year-old female, did not see Nolan "until he was right in front of the truck," and did not have time to stop.

Brown said officers at the scene saw no evidence that the driver did anything wrong.

"We don't feel that speed is a contributing factor to this," Brown said. "We have some unbiased witnesses who told officers that the truck that struck Tim was not speeding at the time."

Brown said Nolan is a transient man who had been living in Steamboat "for some time."

Ryg said he is still trying to locate members of Nolan's family. Law enforcement officers spent several hours Sunday at Howelsen Hill, where Nolan may have been living in a tent, but were not able to obtain any information, police said.

"At this point, we have not been able to find any family members," Brown said.
