Exhibition to feature high school players

— The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs will be the site of a U.S. Open party and doubles tennis exhibition this weekend.

The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The Steamboat Tennis Association and Tennis Fundraising Committee are sponsoring the exhibition and party.

Those attending the exhibition will see some of the finest tennis Steamboat has to offer, STA officials said. Past and present Steamboat Springs High School players Casey Clagett and Ramsey Bernard will be featured and introduced at the event.

Clagett played for Steamboat Springs High School and was the school's No. 1 singles player for all four years of his high school career. He was the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2002 for Whittenberg College, and he is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry.

In 2004, Bernard, as a freshman, became Steamboat Springs High School's first state champion in Class 4A tennis. He was named to the All-State Athletic Team the same years, and he currently is ranked 26th in the Colorado Intermountain Section standings.

Clagett and Bernard will play in this weekend's exhibition along with Fritz Garger and Jim Swiggart.

The event includes a drawing for prizes such as tennis rackets, a 2007 Summer Tennis Medallion and a trip to this year's U.S. Open in New York.

U.S. Open party tickets and drawing tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Tennis Center for $50 each.

The Alpine Bank and Steamboat Tennis Association Doubles Championship also will take place at the Tennis Center this weekend. For more information, call 879-8400.
