Joanne Palmer: River acts alarming

However, after spending several hours on Saturday at the C-Hole with my son, I was both surprised and alarmed at what I witnessed.

1. Numerous adults tubing nonchalantly with glass beer bottles

2. Dozens of teenagers diving head first into the C-Hole

3. A line of teenage boys standing in the water trying to capsize passing tubers.

This caused so much concern that the police were called. When the officer arrived, he found one boy who had been causing trouble and gave him a cursory warning.

I don't know what the solution is, but my fear is that when the water level drops someone is going to dive in head first and get hurt. Parents, please talk to your children about the dangers of diving into the river. Maybe a community service officer needs to stop by to monitor the situation before someone gets seriously hurt.

I hate to suggest monetary fines, but it might be the only way to stop people from tubing with glass bottles.
