Book signings are a great opportunity for people to pick the brains of published writers.
"You can ask about the writing process and how we find the time to write every day," local author Jill Murphy Long said. "Writers are happy to share how we got to where we are and what we are continuing to learn."
At least six local authors including Long, Harriet Freiberger, Cesare Rosati, Kathleen Cunningham Guler, Michala Miller and Mary Calhoun will be at the bookstore today.
"Every year, it is a tradition that after their annual writer's workshop conference, they come here and do a signing," said Debbie Hoing, special events coordinator for Off the Beaten Path.
Kathryn Black, author of "Mothering Without a Map: The Search for the Good Mother Within" and her agent, Jody Rein also will be present to answer questions. Black is speaking at the writers conference.
Long appreciates the opportunity to connect with readers.
"It's nice to know that what I'm saying is being heard and actually used," she said. "Or at least, they promise to when they walk out the door, and they give me a whole list of what to write next."
There will be autographed copies of books left behind for people who cannot attend the book signing.
Long is excited about this opportunity for other reasons, as well.
"I need to sell more books," Long said. "So I can buy a new mountain bike."
