Steamboat Springs Two meetings today will focus on the proposed Wildhorse Meadows project.
The project would have condominiums, townhomes and single-family residences. The plan includes a commercial center with commercial, educational and cultural uses as well as a private gondola.
It is planned for a 47-acre parcel south of the Mount Werner Road and Steamboat Boulevard intersection, adjacent to The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs and Meadows Parking Lot.
This afternoon, the Steamboat Springs City Council will hear a presentation on the potential for a metro district for the project. A metro district is a legal entity that operates like a government. Such districts are primarily established to finance public improvements and can be within a city if city officials authorize them.
The council will also learn about the affordable housing plans for the project.
Tonight, the Steamboat Springs Planning Commission will review the project's preliminary plat and development plan. A plat maps out parcels of land, and a development plan addresses issues such as mass and scale.
Planning commissioners reviewed Wildhorse Meadows in late June. They tabled it, saying there were too many variances to city codes as well as the chance for obstruction of southern views along Mount Werner Circle.
Partners in the project -- who include David Hill, Brent Pearson and Whitney Ward -- revised the site plan based on planning commissioners' concerns. Instead of building the originally proposed 607 residential units, they are now proposing to build 567 units. They also consolidated some of the buildings along Mount Werner Road to open up the streetscape.
