Historic Routt County

chosen by Soup Bowl

Historic Routt County has been chosen as the beneficiary of this year's Soup Bowl Supper sponsored by the Steamboat Clay Artisans. The money raised from the event will be used for restoration of several historic buildings in Routt County, including the Diamond Window Cabin near Stagecoach Reservoir and the Toponas Community Club building on Colorado Highway 131.

This year's Soup Bowl Supper is Oct. 4 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Attendees will receive a locally made ceramic soup bowl that they can fill with soup donated by local restaurants. Bread, beverage and dessert also are included. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. A silent auction of ceramic creations by local clay artists also takes place at each of the two supper seatings.

Previous Soup Bowl Supper beneficiaries have included the Animal Assistance League of Northwest Colorado, Yampa Valley Recycles and LIFT-UP of Routt County. The fundraiser has generated a total of $24,893 in its four years.

For more information, call Deb Babcock at 846-9349.

Local artists, sponsors needed for annual Bust

Local artists and sponsors are needed for the fifth annual Bust of Steamboat. There are two remaining sponsorships, and several committed sponsors are looking for artists to be their creative partners.

This year's auction is from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at Three Peaks Bar & Grill. Bras will be auctioned off to the highest bidder to help raise money for local women. All funds benefit uninsured or underinsured Yampa Valley women who need mammograms or financial assistance for breast cancer treatment.

As in years past, an award will be presented at the end of the evening for "Bust of Show" -- the bra that receives the most dollar votes. For more information, call Debbie Curd at 871-7907.

Hot Air Balloon Rodeo seeks volunteers

Volunteers are needed July 8 and 9 during the 26th annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo in Steamboat Springs. Volunteers will receive an official Hot Air Balloon Rodeo T-shirt. Call 879-0882, ext. 208, or stop by the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association at 1255 S. Lincoln Ave. to sign up for a job.

LIFT-UP suspends regular Food Bank hours

LIFT-UP of Routt County has suspended regular Food Bank hours at its Steamboat Springs location until further notice. Services for Routt County residents will still be available by appointment only. Perishable items will continue to be made available -- depending on supply -- in the parking lot under the Food Bank's windows. The thrift store and donation center will continue to operate during their usual hours.

LIFT-UP is distributing USDA Commodities through Sept. 30 at its Steamboat, Oak Creek and Hayden locations. Eligible households can receive Emergency Food Assistance Program items on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 870-8804 between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for more information about income eligibility and hours of operation.
