The Hayden High School wrestling team took fourth place, and Soroco finished sixth at the Rangely Tournament on Saturday.
Hayden senior Isaac Haskins won the 152-pound title.
"He wrestled very well," Tigers coach Ty Zabel said.
Soroco's Justin Iacovetto (103 pounds) and Joel Schlegel (112) placed first, but each had to work hard to win.
"They had some good matches," Rams coach Doug Gates said. "That Rangely kid gave Joel quite a match in the finals. Joel ended up winning, 4-2, but he had pinned that kid before. Justin had some tough matches, too."
Six other Hayden and Soroco wrestlers placed in Rangely.
Hayden's Zed Wheelock, Mit-chell Doolin and Coy Letlow were third at 103, 125 and 160 pounds, respectively. Hayden's Mitchell Vedepo and Jake Magee were fourth at 112 and 130 pounds, respectively.
"It was a good weekend," Zabel said. "We had a good showing."
Soroco's Dennis Morgan took third at 189 pounds, losing to a West Grand wrestler he had beaten before.
Morgan will see his West Grand opponent again Saturday when Hayden hosts the annual Routt County Triangular. Us--ually, Steamboat, Soroco and Hayden are the only three teams to compete, but West Grand is in the mix this season.
Matches begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hayden High School, and there should be some great matches for all four schools. This will be the final tournament before the regional tournament Feb. 10 and 11.
Hayden and Soroco will wrestle at Fruita-Monument High School for the regional tournament. Steamboat will wrestle at Grand Junction High School for regionals.
Soroco also competes in a triangular at 6 p.m. today against Battle Mountain and Grand Valley in Eagle-Vail.
Houston Mader was third at 130 pounds and wrestled "great," coach Sean McCarthy said.
Luke Rummel was fourth at 140 pounds, and Andy Morell was fifth at 135 pounds.
"The three kids that have been doing well continue to do well," McCarthy said.
Steamboat wrestles in the Routt County Triangular at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hayden. Usually, Steamboat, Soroco and Hayden are the only teams to compete in the meet, but West Grand also is participating this year.
