Steamboat Springs snowboarders Grant Murray and Maddy Schaffrick and skier Jonas Seiler have been invited to compete in the inaugural Sports Illustrated for Kids Next Snow Search All-Stars competition.
The event will air on NBC from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 11. It is the lead-in show for NBC's Winter Olympics coverage that day, which includes coverage of the individual gold medal final in Nordic combined.
The three young athletes were at Howelsen Hill training Wednesday.
"I'm looking forward to the slopestyle and pipe," Seiler, 15, said.
"I like the pipe and slopestyle," Grant, 13, said.
"Same for me," Maddy, 11, said.
Filming for the show is this weekend at Keystone Resort in Summit County.
Seiler, Murray and Schaffrick were invited to the SI for Kids Next Snow Search event because of their top results during the past year. The three will represent the Steamboat Ski Area, and Schaffrick already has her Steamboat logo sticker stuck to her pink helmet.
The Next Snow Search is a national search to find the next generation of top skiers and snowboarders. The 2006 "All-Stars" event going on this weekend is bringing together the top skiers and riders from 2004 and 2005 for two days of competition.
The children will compete in an all-around test of skills in an effort to be named to the first SI for Kids "All-Stars Team."
Seiler, Murray and Schaffrick will have to demonstrate their overall skiing and riding ability, but the final results also are based on style, attitude and personality. There is only one class, so everyone competes against one another.
