Dorothy Coon, 1920-2006

Dorothy Coon died with her family by her side Jan. 14, 2006, at Mantey Heights Rehab and Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 85.

Coon has family in Craig.

She was born to Marshall Jones and Lillian Jones (Hunt) Santer on Sept. 30, 1920, in Denver.

Dorothy spent her childhood in Denver and El Monte, Calif.

She married Orba C. Coon on Aug. 21, 1937, in Los Angeles. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1988.

Dorothy came to Grand Junction in 1948 and attended Mesa College, where she received training to become a nurse. She went on to work for St. Mary's Hospital for 30 years. She retired in 1985.

Dorothy enjoyed her faith and doll repair. She will be remembered for her caring spirit. She always gave to anyone in need and always had time to listen and be a friend. She was especially proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and two granddaughters.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. and her husband Delmar Coyner of Craig, and Sharon L. and her husband Philip Armour of Mack; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no public services.
