Shuttle bus collides with dump truck

— Slick roads and excessive speed caused a shuttle bus operated by Alpine Taxi to collide with a dump truck Tuesday, closing a portion of Walton Creek Road for about an hour, police officers said. No one was injured in the accident.

Steamboat Springs police Officer Gerard Geis said about 15 passengers were on the shuttle bus when its driver was unable to stop the van at Eagleridge Drive and Walton Creek Road. The shuttle was heading south and around a downhill curve on Eagleridge Drive.

A privately owned dump truck hauling a load of snow was traveling west on Walton Creek Road, and its driver attempted to steer around the shuttle bus, Officer Kurtis Luster said.

The right front side of the dump truck struck the left front side of the bus, Luster said.

"It was a near-miss of a T-bone," he said. "They were just able to evade each other."

The passengers on the Alpine Taxi shuttle were transferred to another shuttle.

Police closed Walnut Creek Road from Chinook Lane to Eagleridge Drive for about an hour Tuesday afternoon. Eagleridge Drive becomes Whistler Road on the south side of Walnut Creek Road.

Police issued a citation for careless driving to the driver of the shuttle bus, Geis said.
