Lupo's reopens, Levelz remains closed

— The Levelz nightclub remained closed Tuesday, two days after it was evacuated because of suspected structural problems. Lupo's, the bar underneath Levelz, reopened Tuesday night.

Levelz will remain closed while engineers find a way to fix a beam that cracked under the weight of the dance floor during a concert Saturday night.

The two nightspots were evacuated by the bars' staffs early Sunday morning after someone called 911 to report problems with the building's structure. No one was injured, but the bars were closed until architects and engineers could evaluate them.

They were foc--using Tuesday on a beam that appeared to have failed, said Chuck Porter, general manager of the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, which owns the Ski Time Square building that houses Lupo's and Levelz. The beam was solid wood and had cracked through a knot in the wood, Porter said. Temporary supports were installed so Lupo's could reopen. They are still investigating what caused the beam to fail, he said.

An attorney representing the owner of the two bars said the owner is trying to find another location at which to reopen Levelz until repairs are made. Friday's show at Levelz has been canceled. The Saturday show has not been canceled.
