A 36-year-old Morrison man was listed in fair condition Friday afternoon after he reportedly fell asleep while driving near Hayden on Thursday. The resulting accident killed a Craig man.

Colorado State Patrol Troop-er Rick Kaspar said Fri--day that Dustin Owen Lund suffered broken ribs and other serious injuries in the accident that killed 43-year-old Michael David Bailey of Craig.

Kaspar said he does not think Lund's injuries are life-threatening. Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene, said Mitch Locke, Routt County's deputy coroner.

The accident happened at about 4 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 40, less than one mile east of Hayden.

Kaspar said Lund was driving a large yellow GMC delivery truck when he apparently fell asleep. The truck drifted into the westbound lane, where it hit the white Ford F-250 Coca-Cola pickup driven by Bailey.

Kaspar said Bailey was working for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Craig.

Both men were driving alone at the time of the accident, Kaspar said.

Lund's delivery truck immediately caught fire and was extinguished by drivers of passing cars who stopped to help.

Kaspar said Lund was not wearing his seat belt but was able to crawl out of the truck after the accident.

Kaspar said he still is investigating the accident and hasn't determined whether Lund will be cited. He does not suspect alcohol or drugs as contributing factors.
