Hayden parents to meet with teachers Feb. 22, 23

Applications available for Hayden mayor position

Cow management class held all day Tuesday

The Colorado State University Extension Office is sponsoring a "Management Issues for Your Cow Herd" class from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday in Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill. The class will discuss, among other things, increasing production and returns on pastures, the cattle market situation, beef cattle diseases and ID programs and making smart decisions for ranch survivability.

The registration fee is $45, which includes lunch and materials. Speakers will be Jeff Tranel, Rod Sharp, Bill Ekstrom, C.J. Mucklow and Steve Koontz. For more information or to register, call 879-0825.

Boys lacrosse registration open for spring play

Registration for spring lacrosse is under way for boys in grades four through eight and girls in grades six through eight. The deadline for youth lacrosse registration is this week. Winter Sports Club's jumping event on Tuesdays

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club's Tuesday Night Recreational Jumping series is Tuesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. through March 7. Registration is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. on jumping nights. The cost is $12 a night, and jumpers must have a lift ticket and a helmet. No experience is necessary. Call 879-0695.

CMC offering free English classes Tuesdays, Thursdays

Colorado Mountain College offers free English as a Second Language classes for all levels. Classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in Room 302 of Willett Hall, 1330 Bob Adams Drive. To enroll, call Jenny le Roux at 870-4534.

Youth basketball program accepting applications

Registration is under way for the city's youth basketball program. The program is for children in the third through sixth grades and runs March through May. The program is designed for youths who want to learn more about the fundamentals of basketball in a noncompetitive atmosphere. Registrations are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration forms can be obtained at the Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department office. Call 879-4300 for more information.

'Stars of Tomorrow'

contest set for March 20

The Steamboat Springs Kiwanis Club's "Stars of Tomorrow" talent contest is at 7 p.m. March 20 in the Steamboat Springs High School auditorium. The 39th annual talent show is open to all Routt County school-age children.

The competition includes three categories: the senior division for high school students, the junior division for children in grades six through eight, and the elementary division for students in grades kindergarten through five.

All contestants will receive a certificate of participation, and the top three contestants in each category will receive medals.

Stars of Tomorrow participation applications are due March 13 to Bob Hall. Applications are available from school music and dance teachers and from Hall, who can be reached at 879-5100.

Fairgrounds building open for horseback riding

The Routt County Fairgrounds multipurpose building is open to the public for horseback riding. The cost is $5 for two hours. Days and times vary according to the schedules of the volunteer supervisors. The schedule can be viewed at www.routtcountyfair.org, or call 276-3068 for more information.

South Routt school offers free violin, cello lessons

South Routt Elementary School is offering free beginning violin and cello classes for all school-age children and adults. The class is from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays at the South Routt Elementary School in Yampa. Call 638-4558, ext. 5020, for more information.
