Winter Carnival street events taking place Saturday and Sunday will affect traffic and bus routes on Lincoln Avenue.
The main road through downtown Steamboat Springs will be closed from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday while crews cover the street with snow for the events, said Jim Weber, city director of public works. Lincoln Avenue also will be closed part of Sunday and early Monday.
The street events also will affect the city's free bus service. Steamboat Springs Transit officials are offering alternative bus stops on Oak Street to replace the Lincoln Avenue stops. Bus service will operate on a normal schedule, but delays are expected because of increased traffic and detours, said George Krawzoff, the city's director of transit and transportation services.
He said additional buses will operate near the Steamboat Ski Area to keep the green and orange lines on schedule.
Steamboat Springs Transit also will operate extra buses Saturday night after the Winter Carnival fireworks show. Three buses will be added to the fleet to transport people from downtown to the ski area. Those buses will begin running after the fireworks show ends and will run until they are not needed.
