Here is your first look at the weather. It was 28 degrees at 8 a.m. and there is another major storm looming that is expected to hit Steamboat before nailing Denver. Expect light snow throughout the day today. The heavy stuff is expected to fall tonight into tomorrow. Accumulations of more than a foot are possible.

Topping the news this morning a fire broke out at a 12-unit condominium building Tuesday night, forcing the people who were staying there to make alternative lodging arrangements.

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue firefighters were dispatched at about 6:20 p.m. to a report of smoke coming from the roof of The Pines Condominium building at 520 Ore House Plaza unit number 301. The complex is located along Pine Grove Road behind Central Park Plaza.

Firefighters were on scene into the evening and were unavailable for comment. No injuries were reported.

The closing of a long-time convenience store signals more change in downtown Steamboat Springs.

Paul Brown, whose family has owned the real estate affiliated with the Go-Fer Foods store at Seventh and Lincoln for three generations, said Monday he and his father, Bob, have talked to more than one developer about the future of the site.

Jim Cook of Colorado Group Real Estate confirmed he has talked to the Browns about the property.

Schools are the colorful thread in the fabric of any community, which is why North Routt residents are looking forward to the opening of the North Routt Preschool.

Delayed by vandalism to the preschool's plumbing in late November, the North Routt child care center is slated to open in mid- to late-April, preschool board president Stephanie Anderson said.

In addition to being able to work with children between the ages of 3 and 5, the new North Routt Preschool will be able to help children 2 years and younger, including infants as young as 6 weeks old.

It's a little quieter on Walnut Street in Hayden now that the liquor store is closed.

Mount Harris Liquors owner Lorraine Johnson decided to close the business.

Her family opened the liquor store opened in 1982.

Johnson said there were numerous reasons why she decided to close the liquor store. Business has not been as good recently. The hunting season did not attract as many hunters as it did in past years.

In sports, the Hitchens Brothers Wednesday Night Jump Series is about competition, history and promoting Steamboat's Nordic heritage.
