YVEA: Rates won't go up

Steamboat Springs — For the sixth year in a row, the Yampa Valley Electric Association won't raise its rates.
YVEA General Manager Lawrence Covillo said the decision to not raise rates was made after reviewing the year's financial statements with Board of Directors.
"Electric rates will remain stable for 2007," he said. "That's good news for our customers."
Covillo estimates about 620 new customers will require electricity in 2007, a subscriber increase of 2.5 percent. YVEA provides electricity to about 25,700 residents throughout the Yampa Valley.
"The Association anticipates another strong construction season," Covillo said. "It is hopes that our efforts to make electricity as economical as possible will benefit everyone served by the Association."
YVEA's rates are below state and national averages, he said.
While the Association plans to increase service levels in 2007, it also looks forward to a busy year of upgrading and replacing several lines.
The Board of Directors approved $6.7 million in plant additions and replacements in 2007, including upgrading service lines in the Craig district, Steamboat Springs and Hamilton.
One of the larger projects will include replacing a main line up River Road, Covillo said.
"This is going to be the busiest year we've had in a couple of years," he said. "We have a lot of things going on."
