Recent local headlines reported our state 42nd in philanthropy. Although this is true via the methodology used by the Catalogue of Philanthropy, it does not reflect the giving trends in Routt County.

According to the recently published Nonprofit Report for Routt and Moffat Counties, Routt County is extremely generous. The 2002 average charitable contribution of a Routt County resident was $5,058, Colorado residents average $3,199, and the U.S. average was $2,805.

The recently published study by the Center on Wealth and Philanthropy at Boston College uses 2004 data and adjusts the IRS data for cost of living by state. Its study showed Colorado 14th in generosity.

Routt County has a large number of nonprofits that help meet the needs of our valley. They depend on the support of our residents, part-time residents and visitors to fulfill their missions. The financial and volunteer support the residents of our valley give back to our community is wonderful. Thank you!
