On Tuesday night, the Steamboat Springs City Council approved the preliminary plat for the Steamboat Barn Village subdivision, which includes more than 90 housing units on a 39-acre site near Yampa Valley Medical Center and east of Pine Grove Road. The proposal also includes a 4-acre public park surrounding the historic More Barn.
Preliminary plat approval is the most significant planning hurdle for single-family subdivisions in Steamboat.
"The preliminary plat really sets the design and development criteria," said Brian Berndt, the city's assistant director of planning services. "The final plat takes care of all the little issues."
Berndt said construction still is pending city approval of the subdivision's community housing plan, which includes affordable units and transitional housing for hospital employees.
"I would say we won't see any dirt turned for the next four to six months," Berndt said.
