Steamboat Springs A grassroots group of locals known as the Citizens for a Recreation Center has been working diligently to explore the options for a recreation center for Steamboat Springs. CRC's vision statement is, "The Recreation Center Committee uses the Feasibility Study and results from citizen polling to determine the best way to provide for the present and future unmet recreational needs in an effort to invest in the future of youths, teens, adults and seniors in our growing and changing community." We are exploring all aspects of this vision statement, including location, cost, wants, needs and areas of concerns.
Much has been said and written in the paper for the past week about the possibility of a recreation center in this community. All of these comments have brought up much discussion and questions. Many of these questions could not be answered by previous consultants or by CRC. The City Council is taking steps to answer all of these questions by appointing a consultant team that has immense experience in figuring out the best options for communities as far as their recreational needs. They have a proven public process that involves input from the citizens and focuses on the history of the community and how that history is honored and protected. They have the knowledge and experience - they have collaborated on more than 100 recreational facilities nationwide, and they are successfully sustained and operated.
In the next several months, the consulting team, with the help of CRC, will invite and include the public in this process. They will help determine what amenities are needed, where they should be built and how they should be paid for and are very visionary in their approach. We encourage everyone in Steamboat to keep an open mind. Stay tuned, as your input is encouraged and welcomed.
