Hayden After a successful fall season, 15 Hayden High School student-athletes were recognized for their play on the volleyball court and football field.
The Tigers football team had seven first-team All-League selections and three honorable mention All-League selections.
Seniors Brandon Ford and Dave Gullett, juniors Aaron Haskins, Garrett Murchison, Jordan Williams and Russell Waugh and sophomore Coy Letlow were all named to the Class 1A Western Slope League first team.
Junior Dustin Parrott and sophomores Jake Magee and Billy Zehner were named to the honorable mention team.
The Tigers finished the season 9-2 and advanced to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs. Gullett, Haskins, Murchison, Williams, Parrott and Magee helped running backs Ford, Waugh and Letlow gain more than 3,000 yards rushing this year.
In volleyball, senior Emily Whiteman and sophomore Kylee Sweetser were named to the first team. Seniors Jessica Martin, Katy Koehler and sophomore Holli Salazar were named honorable mention.
Hayden's volleyball team earned a No. 3 seed in the district tournament after finishing at the bottom of the league in the 2005 season.
Whiteman also was chosen to play in the All-State game. Sweetser was nominated to the All-District team.
Hayden head volleyball coach Stephanie Davis considered the selections quite an honor and said they showed all the hard work the girls put in.
"I think to have five girls acknowledged for their play is terrific," Davis said. "To go from the bottom of the league to one of the top three was a good showing for us."
