Habitat for Humanity seeking designer
Habitat for Humanity is seeking assistance from a designer to do preliminary plans for the agency's next project, a duplex with three or four bedrooms in each unit. Call Shannon Ford at 846-3290.
Financial Peace classes begin Sept. 11
"Financial Peace University," a 13-week class aimed at helping families struggling with debt, will begin on Sept. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs.
The program will run from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday at the church. There is an $84 charge for the class, but some scholarship money is available.
Financial Peace University is a program developed by noted author and radio personality Dave Ramsey, author of the book, " The Total Money Makeover." The program teaches decision-making, goal setting and financial priorities. On average, families who have participated in a financial peace university have paid off more than $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700 during this 91-day program.

LIFT-UP seeking food
LIFT-UP of Routt County is in need of food donations for its food bank. The nonprofit organization is urging community members to donate food to the Steamboat food bank. Needed items include tuna, canned vegetables, canned beans, canned fruit, pancake mix, syrup, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes and personal hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner. Donations will benefit struggling local individuals and families. Donations can be dropped off at the food bank at Seventh and Aspen streets. For more information, call Erika at 870-8804.
TeenRead cards due at Bud Werner library
Area teens who turn in their TeensRead cards to Bud Werner Memorial Library before school starts are eligible for a $50 gift certificate. A completed card signifies the teen read 1,000 pages over the summer. The program is for children and teens ages 11-18.
Every participant who turns in a card will receive a $10 gift certificate to his or her choice of Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, The Potter's Wheel, Silver Lining, Quicksilver Boardriders Club or The Click. All completed cards also will be entered in the Grand Prize Drawing on Aug. 28 for the $50 gift certificate donated by Wells Fargo Bank. Volunteers needed to
help victims of abuse
Advocates Against Battering and Abuse is seeking community volunteers interested in helping victims of domestic violence. Advocates will host a 25-hour volunteer training beginning in September. Anyone interested in the program is asked to call 879-2034 before Aug. 25.
