Teen School Days Off available for students

The city of Steamboat Springs' Teen Programs has developed a new program for middle school students.

Teen School Days Off, or TSDO, will be held on the Fridays during the 2006-07 school year during which school is not in session. SDO kicks off Sept. 1, when participating sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders will travel to Six Flags Elitch Gardens in Denver.

There will be one Teen Programs staff member for every 10 participants. The kids will take the city's Recreation Activity Bus. The cost is $35 and includes transportation, admission to the amusement park and dinner. Participants must bring a sack lunch. Space is limited to 30 participants. Registration packets are available at Parks and Recreation offices, 245 Howelsen Parkway. Completed registration forms must be submitted with the $35 registration fee before 5 p.m. Aug. 25.

Reading teens eligible for gift certificate

Area teens who turn in their TeensRead cards to Bud Werner Memorial Library before school starts are eligible for a $50 gift certificate. A completed card signifies the teen read 1,000 pages over the summer. The program is for children and teens ages 11-18. Participants who turn in a card will receive a $10 gift certificate to a local business.
