Man, woman OK after accident

Driver cited for careless driving after car goes off road

— A Montrose couple was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center with minor injuries Thursday afternoon after their car slid down an embankment and through a fence near Yampa.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Jeff Vrbas said the driver of the 2006 Mazda four-door sedan, 44-year-old Regina Martin, was driving north on Colorado Highway 131 about four miles south of Yampa when she drifted off the right side of the road, overcorrected, went off the left side of the road and slid down an embankment and through a fence.

Martin's husband, Peter Martin, 47, was the only passenger in the car, Vrbas said.

Regina Martin was taken to the hospital complaining about back and pelvic pain. Peter Martin reportedly was suffering from back pain, Vrbas said.

The couple was released from the hospital at about 8 p.m. Thursday, he said.

Vrbas said Martin was not speeding at the time of the accident. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts. Regina Martin was cited for careless driving, he said.
