Steamboat Springs Three Steamboat Springs businesses were burglarized Saturday and Sunday nights, and a fourth attempt was unsuccessful only because there was no money in the store's cash register, police said.
Steamboat Springs Det. Capt. Bob Del Valle said Amaze'n Steamboat was broken in to Saturday night, and Terry Sports, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Sugar Run were broken in to Sunday night.
The burglar or burglars are thought to have stolen $600 in cash and a safe worth $100 from Amaze'n Steamboat. The burglary was reported at 9:24 a.m. Sunday, Del Valle said. Someone broke one of the business's windows to enter the store and then stole the safe, Del Valle said.
The other three burglaries were reported Monday morning. Two of the businesses - Terry Sports and Sugar Run - are in the 1800 block of Ski Time Square Drive. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue.
Del Valle said each of the three businesses was forcibly broken in to.
The burglar or burglars stole $142 in cash and about $200 worth of earrings and mood rings from Sugar Run. Del Valle said $513 in cash was taken from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Nothing was taken from Terry Sports because there was no money in the store's cash register, although the register's keys were missing, Del Valle said.
The police department is investigating the three Sunday burglaries under the presumption they are related. The burglary at Amaze'n Steamboat "could be connected," Del Valle said.
Police are "talking with people of interest" but otherwise do not have any suspects, he said.
