Truck spills sheet rock near Oak Creek
A Colorado State Patrol dispatcher said a semi-truck rolled over Monday afternoon on Colorado Highway 131, about three miles north of Oak Creek.
The truck was carrying a load of sheet rock that spilled across the roadway, blocking traffic and requiring an extensive cleanup. No injuries occurred in the accident and no other vehicles were involved, the dispatcher said.
Yampatika seeks artists
to help with fundraiser
Yampatika, a nonprofit organization focused on providing environmental and cultural education, is inviting local professional artists to participate in the upcoming "Unmask Your Colorado Critter" fundraiser. Artists are invited to create a mask that will be auctioned at an Oct. 6 event. Masks will be displayed to the community the week before and the week after the event. Completed masks need to be delivered to Yampatika by Sept. 15. Space is limited to eight artists. Call Yampatika at 871-9151.
Annual Soup Bowl Supper scheduled for Oct. 4
The annual Soup Bowl Supper is Oct. 4 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Attendees will receive a locally made ceramic soup bowl that they can fill with soup donated by local restaurants. Bread, beverage and dessert also are included. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. A silent auction of ceramic creations by local clay artists also takes place at each of the two supper seatings.
Historic Routt County is the beneficiary of this year's fundraiser. Previous Soup Bowl Supper beneficiaries have included the Animal Assistance League of Northwest Colorado, Yampa Valley Recycles and LIFT-UP of Routt County. The fundraiser has generated $24,893 in its four years.

Stock Dog Challenge held over Labor Day weekend
The Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge will take place Labor Day weekend at the Stanko Ranch west of Steamboat Springs on Routt County Road 33. Trials will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 3 and 4. Advanced divisions will compete later in the day. There also will be training clinics for potential sheep dogs and handlers throughout the summer. Beginners are welcome.
