Arrest made in child porn case

— A 31-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of trading child pornography.

Steamboat Springs Public Safety Director J.D. Hays said the police department assisted in an FBI investigation focusing on Jason Craig. The police department executed a search warrant June 7 at Craig's home at 624 Grand St., seizing a computer from the home.

Steamboat officers were asked to assist in the FBI's investigation of the case because the FBI was concerned that residents at the home were swapping child pornography, Hays said.

After seizing the computer, investigators found "a significant quantity of child pornography," he said.

Officers executed a federal arrest warrant at 8 a.m. Thursday, taking Craig into custody, Hays said.

Craig has been taken to Denver where he is awaiting indictment, Hays said.

Hays did not know how many or what types of charges Craig is facing, he said.

During the search of Craig's home in June, officers also found 8 ounces of marijuana, Hays said.

So, the Pilot has a "policy" that they don't publish the names of sex offenders until conviction, but they DO publish the names of people arrested (not yet convicted) of child pornography???

So, a sex offender charge is sooo much worse than a child pornagraphy charge that the Pilot feels the need to protect sex offenders but not child pornographers, lest the stain of a sex offense accusation ruin a person's life (of course anyone can shake off a child pornography charge no problem, right)???

Where is the logic in that??? What a stooopid policy!

Plus, they can't even "enforce" that stoopid policy correctly.

They name a teacher in Craig charged (BEFORE conviction) with a sex offense, yet refuse to name a CONVICTED and REGISTERED sex offender who was arrested on another sex offense charge here in Steamboat. (Somehow accusing that scumbag of another sex offense would taint his reputation too much more).

PLUS, they NAME a man charged with a sex offense AFTER THE GUY IS ACQUITTED?!?!?!?! Seriously - The guy is found NOT GUILTY and the Pilot runs his name in the story about the acquittal, after not running his name in all previous articles?!?!?!?!?! (if I was the guy, I would have sued - and won).

What a bunch of arrogant morons there must be running that ship. They put themselves on a holier-than-thou pedestal and try to be high-minded and politically correct, and totally mess it up with incompetence.

Any response editor?? If you can find the power switch on that electronic typewriter on ur desk ....
