Steamboat Springs Grand Futures Prevention Coalition Executive Director Sandra Visnack has been promoted to the coalition's tri-county executive director.
Grand Futures is a community-based substance abuse prevention organization in Northwest Colorado.
The coalition provides education, training and research services in Routt, Grand and Moffat counties.
Visnack accepted the position Aug. 1. She has worked for the coalition since 2004 as the Routt County director.
Visnack's promotion came after the coalition's board of directors restructured the staff.
Before having a tri-county executive director, each county had a county director who was responsible for all programming and administrative duties, such as grant writing, reporting and board development.
Visnack said those duties will now fall on her shoulders, as well as implementing new programs and a youth task force.
She wants to build strong relationships with local companies and the communities in the three counties.
"The board and staff of (Grand Futures) have undergone an extensive strategic planning process over the past year," she said. "The county directors have a lot on their plates and it was getting harder to find the time to recruit and train solid coalition board members and develop new revenue systems when you are knee-deep in running programs, putting on events and performing administrative duties at the same time."
Visnack said the coalition will provide the same services, which include participating in the Steamboat Springs Police Department alcohol compliance checks, holding substance-free events for teens and providing education to schools and other community groups about substance abuse and prevention.
"Our biggest goal is raising the public's awareness to the issues of substance abuse in Northwest Colorado. People just don't think we have a problem," she said.
Visnack's former position may be filled internally in the near future, she said.
Visnack has a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and a master's degree in nonprofit management from Regis University.
