Railroad track updates

to cause delays

Union Pacific Railroad employees will perform railroad track upgrades and maintenance from 7 to 10 a.m. today at Routt County Road 21A across from C.R. 21 off Colorado Highway 131.

Motorists are advised to be prepared for closures and or delays at railroad crossings along that route.

Applications for grant funds due Sept. 6

Applications for Routt County Purchase of Development Rights Program are due to the Routt County Board of Commissioners' Office by Sept. 6. Qualified projects must relate to protecting agricultural operations, natural areas and open lands.

Stock Dog Challenge set for Labor Day weekend

The Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge will take place Labor Day weekend at the Stanko Ranch west of Steamboat Springs on Routt County Road 33. Trials will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 3 and Sept. 4. Advanced divisions will compete later in the day. There also will be training clinics for potential sheep dogs and handlers throughout the summer. Beginners are welcome. Drivers License Office

Tour de Steamboat

registration open

The third annual Kent Eriksen's Tour de Steamboat is Saturday. Registration is open through Friday.

Volunteers are needed for aid stations, the post-ride barbecue and registration. Call 879-0480 or e-mail tourdesteamboat@springsips.com.

'Tools for Schools'

needs donations

Alpine Bank is sponsoring a "Tools for Schools" program to help children obtain the supplies they need for a successful school year.

Community members are encouraged to donate school supplies for children of families that may not be able to afford them.

To participate in the program, drop off basic school supplies at Alpine Bank, 1901 Pine Grove Road in Steamboat, until Aug. 31. Supplies will then be distributed at local schools.

Fast-pitch softball

registration open

Registration for girls fast-pitch softball is ongoing at the Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation office until Wednesday. Girls ages 10 to 14 are eligible for the league.

The $60 registration fee includes uniform top, hat, participation medals and use of equipment and fields. Call 879-4300 with questions.
