Beaux Arts Festival rolls on with street painting

— The Steamboat Springs Beaux Arts Festival continues today with exhibits at various locations throughout town.

Perhaps the most interesting event today is the Strada D' Arte, an exhibition of Italian street painting. Fourteen local artists will design and paint images on the sidewalks in Torian Plum Plaza near the base of the Steamboat Ski Area. Donna Steele will lead the team of artists for the fourth year. Steele is a Steamboat Springs Arts Council artist member.

Strada D' Arte was created in Italy, where artists would decorate church courtyards with religious depictions. Their intention was that those entering the church would appreciate the artwork and leave the artists a donation.

For the Beaux Arts Festival, artists will use chalk to design their artwork.

The Strada D' Arte is a free event. The display is sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council and runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There also will be a gallery talk for Fabric, Furniture and Furnishings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Depot Art Center. Fabric, Furniture and Furnishings is an exhibit at the gallery.

Those who attend the gallery talk can meet the artists and discuss their artwork.

Also today, the Steamboat Wine Festival continues with events from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at various locations. Tickets are $15 to $55. Call (303) 777-6887 for more information.

A silent auction put on by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Torian Plum Plaza. At 3 p.m., Emerald City Opera presents "Letters to Mozart: Life and Love Through his Operas." Tickets are available by calling 879-1996.
