¤ Drawing lessons for still life and landscape are offered at Studio Gallery 27 every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon until August 31. This program is designed primarily for ages 10 and up and for teenagers with an interest in learning sketch techniques, although adults are welcome. Classes are drop-in, so the basics will be covered every time, with attention given to advanced questions as they arise. Light critique follows each session. Students are required to bring a portable drawing board, a selection of drawing pencils (Faber Castell from Pilot Office Supply or the CMC Bookstore) along with a medium and/or large sketchpad. Charcoal and pastel are OK with appropriate paper. We encourage journaling along with instilling solid basic drawing skills with which to proceed onto more complex mediums. We will be following the principles of exploring creativity and empowerment expressed in Julia Cameron's popular book "The Artist's Way." The classes will be instructed by Maria de San Martin, executive assistant at SG27, and assisted by Susan Schiesser, owner-artist of the gallery . Maria holds an MFA from Buenos Aries Institute of Arts, and works art projects in the KVC program at Ski Corp in winter. The fee is $25. Local's discounts and children/young adults of SSAC members rate is $20. Must RSVP to (970) 879-6114.

¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking volunteers for its Docent Program. SSAC docents are trained volunteers who staff The Depot galleries, help interpret and explain our exhibits and encourage visitor interaction with the artwork, furthering the mission of the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. They help with unpacking exhibit items, hanging shows and hosting opening receptions. Docents also coordinate the annual Studio Tour and facilitate the "Art for Seniors" program at the Doak Walker Care Center. They are available to lead guided tours of the exhibits to schools and groups if requested. Docents meet monthly for seminars as well as occasional field trips. Docents continue their arts education by attending the monthly art seminars and gallery talks by presenting artists and exhibition judges, and participating in docent sponsored field trips. Docents are also encouraged to attend art education events and classes at CMC or presented to the community. For more information please contact beth@steamboatspringsarts.com or call 879-9008 x106.
