Project approval nearly done


— Rhe process of approving a mixed-use development in Hayden is nearly complete.

Tonight, the Hayden Town Board will consider approving the final plat for the Creek View subdivision.

The Creek View Town Homes and Plaza development calls for as many as 29 residential units and the use of an existing building that once housed a restaurant.

The development would be on a 3.21-acre parcel south of U.S. Highway 40, east of Dry Creek and west of an alley between Fifth and Sixth streets. A barn, shed and house would be torn down to build the development. Developer Stefanus Nijsten said the restaurant would be reopened.

The project has been met with near-unanimous support from town officials throughout the process. Trustee Ken Gibbon has been the only official to vote against the development. He said the project was too dense.

The Hayden Planning Commission approved the site plan and final plat at its July 27 meeting without conditions.

The Hayden Town Board also will:

  • Consider appointing Roberta Pero to finish serving five-year terms on the West Routt Library District Board of Trustees and the Hayden Public Library Board of Trustees. The seat was vacated by Alena Scott.

  • Hear a presentation from Audrey Danner on regional discussions of Yampa Valley Partners.
  • Consider a request from the Western Colorado Racing Association. The group leases the Hayden Speedway from the town during the summer and will ask permission to run a special event. Associated fees will be discussed.
  • Hear a proposal from Economic Development Commission chairman Jack Giessinger to apply for a $50,000 grant. Funding may be used to finance and facilitate development of small and emerging private business enterprises in rural areas.
