Friday, April 21, 2006
Steamboat Springs If Thursday's game was the season finale for the Steamboat Springs boys lacrosse team, the Sailors made a statement.
Steamboat defeated Wheat Ridge, 11-4, wrapping up the league season and perhaps the 2006 season with an impressive victory against a Front Range school.
Sailors coach Bob Hiester is still trying to find a game for Steamboat when it returns from spring break.
"It was a very good game, maybe in the whole history of the program," he said. "It went really well right from the beginning."
The Sailors held a 6-3 advantage at halftime and scored at least one goal in each quarter.
"It was very consistent," Hiester said.
Jake Flax led the way with five goals and three assists. Kevin Bertrand scored twice. Colin Butler, Justin Howard, Leo Chea and Chase Grippa also scored goals. Butler had one assist, and Howard had two assists.
"I thought our defense played very, very well," Hiester said.
Steamboat improved to 5-9 overall with the win.
