— The Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team started well and finished even better during a 16-1 win against Englewood on Tuesday in the Denver metro area.

"The kids played real well," Sailors coach Bob Hiester said. "It was a good game for us to have at that point."

The Sailors used 26 players, rotating four-plus lines onto the Englewood field.

Steamboat held a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead to 5-0 by halftime.

The Sailors added nine goals in the second half.

It was a change from Saturday's 11-2 loss to Alexand--er Dawson.

"Against Dawson, we started out very slow and got ourselves in a hole early," Hiester said. "They were a good team, but I think we made them look better than they were. We just didn't get off to a good start."

Jake Flax and Neal Ficker scored for the Sailors in the loss. Colin Butler had an assist.

In Tuesday's win, Flax scored three goals. Ficker and Butler scored goals.

Kevin Bertrand led the way with four goals and an assist. Justin Howard added three goals and an assist.

Bryce Peters, Grant Ehrick, Tyler Ostrom and Gus Worden also scored goals. Andy Flax, after starting the game in goal, played in the field in the second half, notching an assist.
