Steamboat Springs The walls of the Loudy-Simpson Ice Arena are adding color.
The Craig Puck Ewes won the Women's Association of Colorado Hockey B2 Mountain Division Tournament, earning a display banner.
"There really aren't any banners hanging in there," Craig player Gayle Criswell said. "We are going to hang ours up."
The Puck Ewes defeated the Steamboat Storm, 3-2, in Sunday's championship game at Howelsen Ice Arena.
The teams, separated by 40 miles, split their season meetings.
"Steamboat was our only loss during the season," Criswell said.
Craig entered the tournament as the top seed. Steamboat was seeded third.
It was the Craig women's first tournament championship.
"It was a big deal to us," Criswell said. "We were up, 2-0, for a while, and then Steamboat tied it back up, 2-2," Criswell said. "Then we got one more goal in the third period and were able to hold it."
Glenwood Springs, Vail and Aspen also played in the league tournament. Steamboat had two teams, the Storm and the Edge.
"It was a big deal that Steamboat and Craig were in the finals because we play Craig a lot," said Kit Rice, goalie for the Edge. "It was a fun game."
The Storm opened the tournament with a 4-1 win against the Edge.
