Nurses offer workshop on healthy life choices
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is hosting a two-day certification workshop, called WAIT Training, that helps teachers teach students about healthy life choices including abstinence from drugs, alcohol, sex and other high-risk behaviors. The workshop is aimed at teachers, coaches, school counselors, nurses and others who work with youths. The training is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 7 at Olympian Hall, 845 Howelsen Parkway in Steamboat Springs. Visit www.waittraining.com to register online or call (720) 488-8888. Fair fundraiser includes barrel race, pole bending
The Routt County Fair and Rodeo Royalty will hold a fundraiser 3-D Barrel Race and Pole Bending on Saturday at Brooks Arena in Hayden. Open and youth entries open at 11 a.m. at $15 per entry. Races start at noon. Call 879-2963 or 638-4638.
Walking series to promote fitness begins Monday
Ski Haus and SWIX are co-sponsoring a Nordic Fitness Walking Series designed to improveardiovascular fitness,trength, endurance, balance and agility. SWIX Nordic walking poles will be provided. The eight-session series is Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m., meeting at the yurt at Howelsen Hill. The series begins Monday. Register at Ski Haus or call 819-0556 for more information.

Counselor helps veterans learn about benefits
Military veterans are encouraged to stop by the Workforce Office in the Sundance at Fish Creek shopping center to visit with the Routt County Veterans Affairs officer. Story-time for children ages 5 and younger
Bud Werner Memorial Library invites children 5 and younger to Hodgepodge story-time, every other Thursday from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Hodgepodge is a free, drop-in program and will be offered Thursday and Oct. 20; Nov. 3 and 17; and Dec. 1 and 15.

Artists needed to design for Bust of Steamboat
Local artists are needed to help Bust of Steamboat sponsors design a bra. The bras will be auctioned during the fourth annual "Bust of Steamboat," from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 at Three Peaks Grill. Funds will help uninsured or underinsured women of Yampa Valley who need mammograms or financial assistance for breast cancer treatment.
