Yampa resident Richard Ernest "Dick" Jones died Sept. 19, 2005, at his home after a brief illness. He was 87.
Richard Ernest Jones was born May 11, 1918, on the Yust Ranch near Kremmling to Richard E. and Georgia Whitney (Yust) Jones. He was raised and attended school in Kremmling. Dick attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins for three years. He then returned to the family ranch to help his father.
Dick married Elsa A. Forster on May 1, 1941, in Thornton. They lived near Toponas for four years and then moved to the ranch near Yampa, where Dick has resided since.
Dick ran the family ranch, and for many years worked for the Routt County Road Department.
He enjoyed his work on the ranch, horses and building miniature railroads. He also liked shooting and was an excellent marksman.
He was a life member of the Egeria Lodge No. 167 AF & AM in Yampa.
His parents, his wife, Elsa, and his daughter Anita Sharon precede him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Georgia, and her husband, Thomas McWhorter, of Loveland; grandchildren, Cheri McWhorter, Donna McWhorter and Pamela Barnhart; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jaime Colaizzi and Sharon and Dustin Barnhart; and a sister, Annabelle, and her husband, Ferris Kirby, of Palisade.
A celebration of his life was held Sept. 24, 2005, at the Yampa Ladies Aide Hall in Yampa.
