Longtime Oak Creek resident Ray Revere died at his home Sept. 18, 2005. He was 78.
Ray was born April 16, 1927, to Nellie and Leonard Revere in Bush, La.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War.
On Dec. 16, 1951, Ray married Mildred Mizell. They had one daughter, Stephanie.
Ray graduated from Louisiana High School in Bogalusa. He received a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Wyoming. He pursued further education at the University of Colorado and the University of Wyoming.
Ray taught history at Soroco Middle School for 24 years.
He was a member of the Egeria Masonic Lodge No. 167 in Yampa, the Consistory of Denver and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, along with being an avid history buff.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Elmo Revere.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred; his daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Randy McDonald, of Hayden; his grandson, Nathan McDonald of Craig; his granddaughter, Natalie McDonald of Grand Junction; great-great-grandsons, Chayton McDonald and Carter Eckberg; his sister, Mildred McElveen of Slidell, La.; his brother, Paul Revere of Newhall, Calif; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Sept. 24, 2005, at the Community Methodist Church of Oak Creek. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ray's name to the Salvation Army for the victims of Hurricane Katrina or the American Heart Association.
