Betty Pauline Gray: 1929--2005


Former Steamboat Springs resident Betty Pauline Gray passed away on Sept. 12, 2005. She was 76.

Betty had been a resident of Grand Junction since 1985.

Betty was born May 31, 1929, to Paul and Nora Edwards Helm in Altus, Okla.

She met the love of her life in Steamboat Springs and married Clifford Gray on Jan. 22, 1947. Betty and Clifford were soul mates and spent many wonderful years together until Clifford's passing in 1990.

Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls while living in La Veta. She spent most of her life helping other people as a secretary for the La Veta School and after retirement through volunteer work with RSVP and Income Tax Assistance.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, and two brothers, Jim and Herchal Helm.

She is survived by a son, Michael Gray; and a daughter, Denise Bell, and her family, all of Grand Junction. Other survivors include two sisters, Reba Madsen of Longmont and Justine Boyle of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held at 10 a.m. Sept. 16, 2005, at Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction. A visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15, 2005. Burial took place privately at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Betty wanted memorial contributions to be sent in her name to the Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado at P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
