County fair holding fundraiser barrel race

The Routt County Fair and Rodeo Royalty will hold a fundraiser 3-D barrel race and pole bending Oct. 1 at Brooks Arena in Hayden. Open and youth entries open at 11 a.m. at $15 per entry. Races start at noon. Call 879-2963 or 638-4638.

Cropwalk 2005 benefits hunger-relief organizations

Cropwalk 2005, a walk for hunger relief, is at 10 a.m. Oct. 1, beginning at the Meadows parking lot. Participants will walk the Yampa River Core Trail to the transportation center. Buses will drive walkers back to the parking lot.

Twenty-five percent of all donations will go to the LIFT-UP food bank. The remainder will go to other relief organizations.

Applications available for student foreign exchange

Applications for the 2006-2007 Outbound Rotary International Youth Exchange are available now and due Oct. 7. Eligible students should be in the 10th, 11th or 12th grades. They should not have graduated from high school at the time of application. At the time of departure from the U.S., the student should not be older than 18 1/2 years old. Some countries will not accept students older than 17 1/2 upon arrival in the country.

Applicants must be in the top third of their class. The exchange is for one school year. Local interviews will take place the week of Oct. 10. To get an application, call Donna Weinman at 879-3967.

Charter School holding golf classic fundraiser

The North Routt Community Charter School will host the third annual Golf Classic at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club. The cost is $125, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch and prizes. All proceeds benefit the North Routt Community Charter School. Call Nick at 846-4507.

Interpreter available for VNA immunizations

An English/Spanish interpreter will be available for Spanish-speaking residents and their children who seek immunizations at Steamboat's Visiting Nurse Association office Monday. Children's immunizations are offered on a sliding scale from free to $15 a shot.

Talented teens sought for style-section staff

The Steamboat Pilot & Today is looking for teenage photographers, artists and writers for the 2005-06 staff of Teen Style. Teen Style runs in the Sunday newspaper every third week.
