Group offers training for volunteer English teachers

Comunidad Integrada will hold a training for community members interested in volunteering to teach English once a week to immigrants in Steamboat Springs. The training will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 in Bogue Hall, Room 300, on the Colorado Mountain College campus. No foreign language skills are necessary. Call 846-5521.

'Bust of Steamboat' needs help from artists, survivors

Local artists are needed to help Bust of Steamboat sponsors design a bra. The bras will be auctioned during the fourth annual "Bust of Steamboat" event, to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 at Three Peaks Bar and Grill. All funds raised will be used to help uninsured or underinsured women of Yampa Valley who are in need of mammograms or financial assistance for breast cancer treatment.

Breast cancer survivors are also needed as volunteers at The Bust of Steamboat. To volunteer, call Debbie Curd at 871-7907 or 879-2373.

Carpet Bag kits available for interested book clubs

Book clubs can request Carpet Bags, kits that contain 12 copies of a single book title and a notebook filled with resources, including biographical information, interviews and discussion questions. Book clubs can choose from nearly 20 titles. Interested book clubs can get more information by calling Michelle Dover at 879-0240, ext. 307.

Colorado Mountain College offers free English classes

Colorado Mountain College offers free English as a Second Language classes for all levels. Classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in Willett Hall, Room 302. To enroll, call Jenny le Roux at 870-4534.

Girls of all abilities can sign up for youth hockey

The Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association is looking for girls interested in playing on its U-19, U-14 and U-12 teams. The teams are part of the Mountain States Girls Hockey League and play between 14 and 18 games a season as well as two or more tournaments. Call 870-8518 or 879-4494 for information.
