Former Hayden resident Colleen Joan (Hayes) Kowach died Sept. 6, 2005, in Silver Lake, Kan. She was 65.
She was born Oct. 3, 1940, to Bill and Lily Hayes in Hayden.
She attended school there and graduated from Hayden High School. She later met and married Jim Frank Kowach.
They had three children, Mardele Darlene Kowach, Jimmy Lee Kowach and Rodney Kim Kowach.
She had four grandchildren: Brianne (Kowach) Smith, and her husband, Caleb, Ben Kowach, Sam Kowach and Mariah Kowach.
She had three great-grandchildren: Victoria Smith, Cassandra Smith and Alaina Smith.
She worked as a retail clerk most of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Howard and Calvin; her sister, Margarite; and her daughter, Mardele Kowach.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Lee and his wife, Lora Kowach, Rodney and his wife, Karen Kowach; her brothers, Bill and his wife, Bessie Hayes, Mickey and his wife, Wilma Hayes, Jay and his wife, Dotty Hayes, Larry and his wife, Marilyn Hayes, Denny and his wife, Gretchen Hayes, John and his wife, Judy Hayes; her sister, Kathaleen Carter; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
A funeral was held Sept. 10, 2005, at the Hayden Congregational Church, at 202 East Jefferson Ave., Hayden.
Pallbearers were Shawn Hayes, Doyle Hayes, Clay Hayes, Kelly Hayes, JD Hayes, Don Hayes and Bill Hayes Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Hayes, Mickey Hayes, Jay Hayes, Larry Hayes, Denny Hayes, John Hayes and all of her friends and family.
