Man arrested after traffic stop

Police say suspect was driving erratically, had more than 23 grams of cocaine

— A man was arrested late Monday night on suspicion of possession of more than 23 grams of cocaine, Routt County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Emilio Castillo, 43, of Steamboat Springs, was pulled over by Routt County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Murphy at about midnight on U.S. Highway 40 near Milner. Castillo was driving in the shoulder lane and swerving, Undersheriff Dan Taylor said.

Taylor said Murphy could smell alcohol on the man's breath. After searching the vehicle, Murphy found 23 1/2 grams of cocaine as well as an open container of alcohol and drug paraphernalia, Taylor said.

Taylor said the man was arrested on suspicion of felony drug possession and intent to distribute.

The man also could be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, having an open alcohol container, possessing drug paraphernalia and driving without insurance.

Taylor said the man cooperated with the deputy during the arrest.

Castillo is being held in Routt County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
