Car catches on fire at Hayden Speedway

A car racing at the Hayden Speedway caught on fire Saturday night but did not result in any injuries.

The racecar reportedly blew a rod and then blew a hold through the engine, which spewed oil and started the fire, Hayden police Officer Ed Corriveau said. The fire was reported at 7:44 p.m., but the racing crew and ambulance crew extinguished the fire before police arrived.

The fire was extinguished while the car was on the track, and then the car was pulled off, Corriveau said. No one involved with the fire, including the race car driver, was injured.
