Vernon L. Reeves, 1944-2005


Craig resident Vernon LeRoy Reeves died Aug. 26, 2005, near Wendover, Nev., after an auto accident. He was 61.

Vernon was born June 5, 1944, in Hotchkiss. He has been a longtime resident of the Yampa Valley and has resided in Craig since 1976.

Vern served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany. He worked in the oilfield for a number of years and has been employed in road construction for the past six years. He was most recently employed by Elam Construction of Craig.

Vern's favorite pastimes were shooting pool and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid backyard mechanic.

Vern could always make a person laugh with a well-placed joke or a one-liner. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Vern is preceded in death by his father, Ervie Reeves; his mother, Juanita (Green) Reeves; and one sister, Viola Chenault.

He is survived by his wife, Susan A. Reeves; one son, Cameron L. Reeves; one daughter, Kimberly J. Reeves; two grandchildren, Tierra Reeves and Hunter Reeves, all of Craig; two sisters, Irene of Eads, and Velma and her husband, Jack Buxton, of Scott City, Kan.; a brother, Ben, and his wife, Ann Reeves, of Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and cousins.
