Former Steamboat Springs resident Deanna Sue Effertz died Aug. 26, 2005. She was 61.
Deanna was born Sept. 27, 1944, in Denver. Deanna grew up in Steamboat Springs then moved to Wasco, Calif., in 1978. She later moved to Frazier Park, Calif., in 1992 upon meeting her future husband, Gil.
She had been employed by Semitropic Water Storage District for the past 22 years until the good Lord decided he needed a very special accounts clerk to relieve her of her suffering from lung cancer and called her home.
Deanna was a focused but fun-loving lady who loved to laugh, go camping, fish and be a part of the Winer's Group, a motley collection of friends who took great pleasure in the Central Coast wines.
Deanna was there to help anyone who needed anything in any way she could.
She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, companion and best friend of a way too short 13 years; daughter, Janice Perekrestenko and her husband, Rod, and their children, Marcus and Tanya, of Greeley; daughter, Missy Payne, of Konawa, Okla.; nephews, Bruce McDowell, Mark McDowell and his wife, Audrey, of Bakersfield, Calif.; their father, John McDowell, of Wasco, Calif.; and son-and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melissa Franks, and their children, Chris, Jenny, Steven and Connie, of Bakersfield, Calif. She also leaves behind an aunt, Maggie Holland, of Craig and her cousin, Peggy Gourley, of Baggs, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Frances Schaefermeyer, of Steamboat Springs, and her sister, Claire McDowell, of Wasco, Calif.
A memorial service is pending.
