Optimist names Labor Teen of Month

The Optimist Club of Steamboat Springs has chosen Kelly Labor as the Teen of the Month for September.

Labor is a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, where she has served four years on Student Council, two as president. She has been the director of the prom committee, has tutored other students in math and has spent three years working on the newspaper, one as editor-in-chief. Labor also is a three-season varsity athlete, playing soccer, basketball and softball.

Labor has been on the High Honor Roll for four years and has numerous academic awards. She has worked as an athletic trainer, peer advocate, and soccer coach for younger athletes, as well as a number of jobs.

According to her nomination to be Teen of the Month, she loves being involved and being a part of the lives of other youths.

Her advice to fellow students at Steamboat Springs High School, as described in that nomination: "You're only in high school once, so don't waste it by doing half the homework, half the school activities, or being involved with half of the clubs. Get 'off the dock' as our motto says this year, and enjoy these four years."
