A man was arrested at City Market on Saturday night after he tried to leave the store with more than $100 worth of Top Ramen noodles and candy that he hadn't paid for.
Employees reportedly saw Rueben Louis Ramirez, 25, of Brighton attempt to leave the store with $109 worth of the dried noodles and candy, Steamboat Springs police Capt. Joel Rae said. Ramirez put the goods into City Market bags before trying to leave.
An employee confronted Rami-rez at the store's entrance, Rae said, and escorted him to the customer service desk.
When Ramirez heard store employees talking about calling the police, he ran for the door, Rae said. But the store's doors were locked, and Ramirez tried to kick them open. Store employees later determined that Ramirez damaged the doors during his escape attempt. An employee was able to pin Ramirez to the floor, Rae said.
When police arrived, Ramirez still was on the floor, with candy and bags of noodles scattered around the store's entrance, Rae said. Police arrested Ramirez and booked him into Routt County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor theft, criminal mischief and menacing.
Ramirez was advised Monday by Routt County Judge James Garrecht. His bond was set at $2,000, and Ramirez will appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25.
