District 4: Pat Gleason on the issues
Wednesday, October 5, 2005
Steamboat Springs School Board, District 4
Pat Gleason
Age: 51
Occupation: owner of Gleason Construction
On the issues:
Montessori: No philosophical disagreement with the method but it shouldn't be publicly funded.
Small class size: Up-to-date research indicates current district staffing is adequate. Research also has proven quality of teachers is of greater value than reducing number of students in a classroom. Would rather pay competent staff more than more staff less for the sake of class size alone.
Policy governance: Employees are empowered to make the decisions that directly affect them and the accountability of those decisions remains with the decision-makers. School Board believes its time is best spent planning and setting goals rather than micro-managing classrooms.
