Construction resumes at Highmark condos

Workers recently poured concrete at the Highmark (formerly The Chadwick) at the corner of Village Drive and AprÃs Ski Way. Construction began in August 2003 and was suspended the following spring. The original developers said a jump in the cost of building materials from the time they broke ground and pursued building permanents for the aboveground phase of the project disrupted their financing.

Mary Kay Orrell-Barber (1945--2005)

Former longtime Steamboat Springs resident Mary Kay Orrell-Barber lost her battle with cancer Sept. 24, 2005. She was 60.

Salvadore Blake Malone, son of Lane and Michael Malone of Steamboat Springs, was born at 8:51 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2005. He weighed 7 pounds and 2 ounces, and was 19.75 inches long. His grandparents are Rosalyn and Louis Stein of New Orleans, Nancy Middleton of Excelsior, Minn., and Blake and Joan Middleton of Eden Prairie, Minn. His great-grandparents are Frances and Bernard Manale of New Orleans.

When Hurricane Katrina tore through areas of the Gulf Coast in late August, it flooded streets, destroyed homes, killed more than a thousand people and displaced hundreds of thousands of Louisiana and Mississippi residents.

Former Toponas and Yampa resident Ollis L. "Mitch" Mitchell went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 12, 2005, at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. He was 86.
